CD+M Lighting Design Group
Thousands of families travel to downtown Atlanta e Thousands of families travel to downtown Atlanta each summer to visit the largest aquarium in the U.S. and 3rd largest in the world... the Georgia Aquarium.

Working closely with the exhibit designers at PGAV Destinations, CD+M designed the lighting for a number of spaces throughout the facility, including one of our favorites, the African Penguins exhibit.

After months of planning, mock-ups and construction, we created a digitally controlled, high-output lighting system which was programmed to follow the actual sunrise and sunset times for the northern hemisphere.

We loved watching guests meet these amazing animals and are thrilled to see them thrive!

In commercial architecture, the term “adaptive r In commercial architecture, the term “adaptive reuse” describes the process of adapting old structures to serve an entirely new purpose. When designed and delivered properly, these projects can offer at least 3 distinct advantages to the community:

1) In cities with heritage architecture, they can often be an important form of historic preservation,

2) As a counter to urban sprawl, they encourage developers to repurpose sites closer to population centers, reducing the impact on the environment as well as construction and infrastructure costs and

3) they can lend character to the community, building civic pride while at the same time reducing blight.

11 years ago this week, Atlanta sold City Hall East, at the time one of the largest abandoned buildings in the South, to Jamestown and GreenStreet Properties.

Built as a Sears, Roebuck & Co. distribution center in the South, to Jamestown and GreenStreet Properties.

Built as a Sears, Roebuck & Co. distribution center in 1926, the team of executive architects at Choate +Hertlein and design architects at S9 Architecture re-envisioned it into today’s Ponce City Market. At CD+M, we couldn’t be prouder of our contribution to this stunning example of adaptive reuse.

How amazing does the main gateway to the World Expo 2020 in Dubai look! Kaynemaile architectural mesh is an aesthetic statement with the added benefit of solar shading to the main entrance.

This is a ‘construction-in-progress’ shot from @ettravelworld and doesn’t represent the complete visitor experience but gives you an idea of how massive it will be when lit up.

Like the façade experience for the @nzatexpo pavilion, this DWTC entrance installation will show off our unique NZ innovation, our in-house design capability and demonstrate how versatile our material is. But, you’ll have to wait for the grand opening to see the many personalities—from day to night.

@expo2020dubai runs from 1 October 2021 until 31 March 2022. Expo will be a celebration of commerce, culture and industry, bringing together 190+ countries for six months.

We can’t wait to share more with you soon! Stay tuned.
