In 2006, CD+M was the only US-based lighting consulting firm invited by BIAD to develop and present an overall lighting concept for both sides of the Olympic Green waterfront immediately adjacent to the National Stadium and other sports venues. Designs for custom RGB lightpoles, bollards and landscape lighting schemes were developed by CD+M and then executed by BIAD in the final realization of the lighting masterplan.
Shortly thereafter, CD+M was asked to participate in an international competition to develop a complete architectural and lighting design solution for a series of iconic media towers, placed on the Beijing Olympic Green between the National Stadium and the Aquatics Center. Standing 30 meters above the 2008 Beijing Olympic Green, our media tower concept fused glass, metal and lighting around the symbology of Taijitu, more commonly known as Yin-Yang – the cornerstone for Taoism and traditional Chinese medicine.
