From it’s original location on a suburban business campus in Illinois, Motorola Mobility partnered with Gensler to lead the programming, design and construction of its new headquarters located at the historic Merchandise Mart in downtown Chicago. Working closely with Motorola, Gensler and CD+M created a space that integrates interior architecture with the latest thinking in technology, strategic workplace design, lighting controls and sustainable design.
The new 600,000-square-foot workspace includes open, collaborative office spaces, an outdoor terrace, lab benching and production line equipment and several amenity spaces, including food service, a conference center and customer service center.
The project team achieved LEED Platinum Certification by carrying out practical and measurable strategies and accomplishing creative solutions reaching high performance throughout the five key areas of human environmental health: sustainable site selection, water efficiency, optimized energy performance, material and resource usage and indoor environmental quality.
“Motorola Mobility’s LEED Platinum Certification demonstrates tremendous green building leadership,” said Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO & Founding Chair, USGBC. “The urgency of USGBC’s mission has challenged the industry to move faster and reach further than ever before, and Motorola Mobility serves as a prime example of just how much we can accomplish.”
